Dashboard and body camera footage captured Pennsylvania police officers hurrying to avoid a suspect who rammed a cruiser with his car and then fled on foot earlier this month.
The incident happened early on Aug. 13 when West Whiteland Township police responded to a home because of a domestic call involving a father and son, WCAU-TV reports. Once at the house, officers encountered a man—identified as Brian Hook, 46—in the driveway who they thought to be violating an order of protection.
When officers got out of their cruisers to confront the man, Hook began driving toward them, crossing the home's front yard and forcing two officers to scramble out of the way. Hook slammed into the front of the cruiser before jumping out of his car and trying to flee on foot.
Officers apprehended Hook, and he was taken to the hospital. He was later charged with assault on a police officer and other counts.
No injuries were reported among the officers responding to the call.
“I think the public knows what happens on social media and what they want to see, but sometimes they don’t get to see first-hand when we pull up to an incident, and we’re just waiting there to talk to someone—a victim or a family member or the actual person that we’re trying to contact—and then they turn around and just drive straight into us,” Det. Sgt. Jeff Mccloskey told WCAU. “The reactions that happened that night put everyone in danger.”
