Video: Bloodied DUI Suspect Tries Sinking His Teeth into LAPD Officer

April 3, 2024
Body camera footage captured an accused DUI driver trying to take a bite out of law enforcement as LAPD officers escorted him down a hospital hallway.

LAPD officers had a struggle with a combative and injured DUI suspect who tried to bite officers as they escorted him in a hospital following a crash last month.

The incident, which was captured on an officer's body camera, happened at about 4 p.m. March 1 when LAPD officers responded to a collision at an intersection, according to the agency.

Officers at the scene arrested a driver—identified as Brian Goldberg—for felony DUI of drugs with traffic collision. Goldberg suffered facial and head injuries from the collision, and he was taken to a hospital for treatment.

As officers and medics were taking Goldberg down a hospital hallway, he became belligerent and struggled to get off the gurney. He refused orders to get back on the gurney and became combative, trying to bite officers as he fought to get free.

When Goldberg began biting, one officer put a clenched hand against the suspect's throat and then put his open hand on the man's neck. Goldberg was not injured when the officer subdued him.

No officers were hurt in the incident, which is under investigation.
