Body camera footage captured a dramatic rescue of a man and an infant by Arkansas police following a fatal crash during a high-speed chase last week.
The pursuit happened March 8 when Greenwood police tried to stop a suspect in a stolen vehicle in a parking lot, KFSM-TV reports. The suspect escaped the lot, speeding away at speeds of over 100 mph while weaving in and out of traffic.
At one point, the vehicle left the highway, crashed into a light pole and slammed into another vehicle. The driver—identified as Kelvin Willis—was killed in the crash, which trapped a passenger and an infant inside the vehicle.
"Officers attempted to extract the driver and passenger but were unable to do so because of the extensive damage," stated the police report. "I then heard a crying baby coming from the back seat. I was able to climb into the back seat and cut the seat belt free and pull the car seat up to the window. The baby was only strapped in by her shoulder straps."
First responders were able to pull the man out of the vehicle, and they were rushed to the hospital. According to the report, the man appeared to suffer a broken arm or wrist and other injuries, but the infant wasn't hurt.
The passenger told police that Willis said he couldn't be caught in the vehicle. He added that he hadn't been aware that the vehicle was stolen.
