Video Shows Chaotic Shootout Between Houston Police, Carjacker
The Houston Police Department released body camera footage over the weekend of a violent shootout last month that left an officer wounded and had garnered attention when a civilian helped drag the injured officer to safety.
The footage, which was released Saturday, shows a Nov. 11 incident in which police pursued a 19-year-old suspected carjacker in a stolen vehicle, KRIV-TV reports. When the chase ended, an officer ordered the suspect to surrender before the man began firing.
The officer was struck in the leg, and another officer and a civilian helped drag the officer to safety. The dramatic rescue had been captured by a bystander and the civilian's body camera.
Shots continued to be fired, and police ordered the man to drop his weapon. An apparently injured suspect reloaded his weapon, and he was shot multiple times and died.
