Video: Golfer Traps Suspect Fleeing Wis. Police in Port-a-Potty

Nov. 17, 2023
A suspect who ran from a crashed SUV and hid in a golf course port=a-potty was apprehended by Glendale police thanks to a golfer who tipped over the outdoor john and trapped the individual.

A suspect in a stolen car might have wanted to take a mulligan after he tried to escape Wisconsin police on a golf course Wednesday but ended up trapped in a port-a-potty thanks to some contentious golfers.

The incident began at about 11:30 a.m. when Glendale police saw an SUV that had been reported stolen from Minnesota, the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports. An officer tried to pull over the vehicle, but the SUV sped away.

Police tried to use stop sticks on the SUV, but the vehicle avoided them, colliding with another vehicle and into a barrier. Four people inside rushed out, and police were able to apprehend one suspect. Two others ran to a nearby golf course.

The suspects raced past golfers, with one suspect headed into a wooded area and the other taking refuge in a port-a-potty. But the outdoor john proved to be a poor hiding place.

“We're looking at each other like, ‘Are you serious? That's where he's gonna hide?'” Ilissa Boland, a golfer who witnessed the chase, told the Journal Sentinel.

As police cruisers sped across the course, a golfer went up to the port-a-potty and discovered the door was locked. That's when he decided to help out law enforcement by tipping the port-a-potty over, trapping the suspect.

“Good luck, man,” he said and walked away.

Police then reached the scene and helped free him from his putrid portable prison.

Two other suspects who fled the SUV are still at large.
