Video: Ohio Police Find Suspect Captured 20 Feet in Air by Forklift
Ohio police officers were introduced to a new crimefighting technique when they responded to a report of a vehicle break-in.
Akron police received a call Oct. 17 concerning an attempted car break-in at an auto wrecking business, WOIO-TV reports. Employees had stopped a suspected thief—someone who had broken into cars previously—by lifting the vehicle with a forklift with the man still inside.
“So, he’s still in the car about 20 feet in the air in the loader,” an employee is heard telling dispatchers in the 9-1-1 call.,
“Wonderful, that is the greatest thing I’ve ever heard,” replied a laughing dispatcher. “We, we will get somebody out to you.”
When officers reached the business, they found the suspect still suspended in the air. The apprehension, which was captured on an officer's body camera, amused police.
“He broke into a car at the junkyard and before he could get out—he’s done it before—they got the forklift and they had him—I’m not kidding—like 20 feet off the ground, so when we got there, he went right into custody,” a responding officer told colleagues.
The 26-year-old suspect was arrested and charged with criminal trespassing and possessing crimnal tools.
