A Maryland police officer was at the right place at the right time when he spotted a house fire and helped people escape the blaze.
The incident happened March 23 as an Anne Arundel County police officer was driving through a residential neighborhood in Pasadena, WUSA-TV reports. That's when he saw flames and smoke shooting from a house.
Quickly, the officer stopped his vehicle and rushed to the home. Body camera footage shows the officer knocking on the door and yelling to the occupants.
Once the homeowner opened the door, the officer told him about the fire. He then told the resident to make sure everyone was out of the house before running to warn neighbors.
The homeowner was able to get his dogs and reach safety. Flames began engulfing the back of the home soon after.
"It is easy to see how quickly house fires can spread and how limited visibility can get, even outside," the police department said in a statement. "We want to thank our Fire Department for quickly managing this fire and for their heroism each and every day."
