Two Missouri police officers is being credited with helping to save the life of an unresponsive infant last week.

The incident happened Thursday as Kansas City Police Officers Richard DuChaine and Charles Owen were responding to a call about a 1-month-old girl who wasn't breathing, according to a department news release. The officers arrived before medics, and the baby's father handed the girl to DuChaine.

The officer began chest compressions and then back thrusts. Finally, the child started breathing again, and DuChaine turned her on her side to check for obstructions. A body-worn camera captured the entire rescue.

"(O)nce I got her flipped over on her back and I started doing the thrusts I started feeling her heart and then after she finally started coming to I could feel her heart racing," DuChaine told KMBC.

The infant was taken to the hospital, where the officers later visited her. She is still under observation at the hospital.
