Body camera footage captured Cedar Hill police officers breaking a sunroof to rescue a driver as ammunition went off inside an SUV that crashed into a ravine and caught fire.

A group of Texas police officers was honored for their quick actions to save a man trapped in a burning car with guns and ammunition that crashed into a ravine in September.

The incident happened Sept. 3 after a car drove through a traffic light and crashed into a ravine in Cedar Hill, KTVT-TV reports. The crash flipped the car on its side, and it hen burst into flames.

When officers reached the scene, they quickly descended into the ravine and broke a sunroof in order to pull out the driver and several guns. Ammunition still inside the car began going off as the officers passed the man up to the roadway to be treated by medics.

The driver was expected to recover from the crash, and no officers were reported injured. Police released body camera footage of the officers' heroic actions, and they were presented with plaques Tuesday.

"We commend all these officers for their lifesaving actions," the department stated in an online post.
