Watch Ore. Police Officer Pull Man from Overturned, Burning Car

Sept. 3, 2022
Body camera footage captured a Beaverton police office smashing the sunroof of a crashed vehicle that caught fire, and he pulled out a man who was trapped inside.

An Oregon police officer braved intense flames to rescue a man trapped inside an overturned, burning car early Tuesday.

The incident happened at an intersection in Beaverton, KATU-TV reports. Beaverton police responded to a report of a car on its side that had caught fire with at least one person still inside.

Officers tried to shatter windows to reach the person, and one officer broke the sunroof. Although small explosions forced the officer back, he eventually was able to pull the man out of the sunroof.

The man was injured but was expected to survive. Police believe the man had been impaired while driving, and he was cited for DUI and reckless driving.
