Body camera footage captured a gunshot going off after an allegedly suicidal man tried to wrestle away the firearm from a responding Utah police officer.
The incident happened just before 8 a.m. on May 29 after Ogden police responded to a report of a man punching a pregnant woman in the face, KTSU-TV reports. When an officer reached the scene, he began pursuing a 29-year-old suspect on foot.
The suspect eventually stopped running and began telling the officer to shoot him. The man then said he was suicidal, and the officer explains that they can go to the hospital for help.
Another officer tackled the suspect, and while trying to cuff him, the man grabbed the tackling officer's gun and threatened to shoot himself. During a struggle, the man was able to draw the officer's gun out of the holster, and a shot went off, but the officer was able to control the suspect's arm to prevent him from shooting anyone.
Finally, officers deployed a TASER and subdued the suspect. He was taken to the hospital for evaluation before being taken to jail. No was struck by the gunshot, and no injuries were reported.
The suspect faces multiple charges, including assault on a police officer, disarming a police officer and discharging a firearm.
