Watch Calif. Police Rescue Autistic Boy in Distress on Edge of Pier
Police saved a severely autistic boy who appeared ready to jump from a California pier over the weekend.
Body camera footage captured the incident that happened Sunday on the Hermosa Beach Pier, KTTV-TV reports. Bystanders alerted police officers to a child who looked distraught and ready to leap off the pier.
Officers raced down the pier and pulled the boy away from the edge. According to police, the child has severe autism, is nonverbal and cannot swim.
Police were able to quickly reunite the boy with his family.
"A solid reminder that if you see something, say something," the department stated on social media. "This boy is alive because of the citizens who flagged down police."
