"This body camera footage is just a small snippet of the bravery and courage displayed by our team of officers that morning," the department stated. "It also highlights an unintended benefit of our Mounted Unit; there were officers working who understood the horses behaviors, equipment, and communication and it certainly benefitted them in their response."

Police saved 10 horses housed in "an adjacent barn who stood in their stalls, frozen in fear," according to police. Seventeen horses died in the fire.

Along with officers, police praised the dispatchers on duty for their efforts. According to the department, they not only handled the frantic demands of the barn fire but also the other reports called in that night.

"We also want to recognize those you won't ever see on body camera, but may often hear," the department stated. "Only two dispatchers were working this evening, and they seamlessly handled the heavy demands of an incident this size while also dispatching other calls throughout the city."
