Video: NYPD Officer Jumps Into Murky Creek to Save Woman

  • Body camera footage shows an NYPD Harbor Unit officer jumping into Newtown Creek in Queens and swimming to a woman clinging to a wooden piling before bringing her safely to a police boat.

A Maryland deputy swam in a body of waterto save an autistic boy last week, and the rescue was captured by sheriff's office body cameras.

The incident happened Friday after the St. Mary's County Sheriff's Office received a report of a missing 9-year-old child with autism in the Hollywood area, the agency stated in a social media post that contained body camera footage in the Hollywood area. The sheriff's office worked with the Maryland State Police, the Maryland Natural Resources police and other agencies to search for the boy.

Once the child was found in a body of water, Deputy Matthew Camp jumped in and swam out to him. Camp was able to pull him safely to shore, and the child was evaluated at the scene by medics before hew reuinted with this family.

"This body-worn camera footage captures just a portion of the teamwork, professionalism, and courage displayed by first responders during this incident," the sheriff's office stated in a news release with the footage. "We are grateful for the positive outcome and proud of the dedication shown by all who responded."
