HUMBLE, Texas -- Body camera footage published by the Harris County Precinct 4 Constable’s Office provides a detailed view of an officer-involved shooting on June 19 in which deputies exchanged gunfire with a suspect during a late-night response to reports of an armed man at an apartment complex.
The footage from Harris County Constable Precinct 4 captures deputies arriving at the scene in the 15800 block of Woodland Hills Drive after reports of a man discharging a firearm. According to officials, deputies immediately began working to evacuate residents from the apartment complex to reduce the risk to civilians as the situation escalated.
As shown in the video, deputies, including Deputy Dante Zepeda and additional Precinct 4 personnel, encountered gunfire from the suspect after making contact at the scene. Multiple deputies returned fire, and the suspect retreated into an apartment and barricaded inside.
The footage underscores the fast-moving nature of the incident, highlighting split-second decision-making, movement through the complex, and efforts to establish a secure perimeter as the situation developed.
Deputy Zepeda sustained injuries to his hip and upper arm during the exchange. He was transported to Houston Northeast Hospital before being transferred to Memorial Hermann Hospital for surgery and further treatment. A second deputy who was also struck remained on scene initially to assist with perimeter security before later receiving medical care and being released.
Following the shooting, the suspect barricaded inside a nearby apartment. The Harris County Sheriff's Office SWAT team responded and took the suspect into custody after a standoff. Officials said the suspect sustained a K-9 bite during the arrest and was transported to a hospital for treatment.
The suspect has not been publicly identified. The Harris County District Attorney’s Office has accepted an aggravated assault on a peace officer charge, pending the suspect’s release from medical care.
Constable Mark Herman of Mark Herman shared the body-worn camera footage and credited deputies for their response, including prior evacuation efforts aimed at moving residents out of harm’s way.
Zepeda, who has served with the agency since 2025 and is assigned to the Atascocita area, has since been discharged from the hospital and is continuing to recover.
