Watch: Ariz. Police Officer Squeezes Through Small Window to Reach Fallen Woman

Body camera footage shows quick thinking and teamwork as an Avondale police officer climbs through a narrow window to enter a locked home and help a woman who couldn’t get up after a fall.

What to know

  • Neighbors reporting cries for help led Avondale police to a home where a woman had fallen and couldn’t get up.
  • With doors locked and no safe traditional entry, an officer removed his gear and squeezed through a small window, allowing police to reach her.
  • Body camera footage shows the teamwork as the officer unlocks the door from inside and responders provide aid until medical care arrives.

An Arizona police officer got creative—and skinny—to squeeze through a residential woman who had fallen in her home earlier this year.

The rescue happened at around noon Feb. 19 when Avondale police were performing a welfare check at a home, according to a department social media post Wednesday that included body camera footage. Officers had responded to calls from neighbors who had heard a woman crying for help.

When police reached the home, they were able to talk to the woman, who said she couldn't get up from a fall. Unfortunately, the home's doors were locked and police couldn't enter the traditional way.

But that didn't stop one officer.

"With the front door locked and no safe way inside, one officer removed his equipment and, with a boost from another officer, squeezed through a small window to gain entry," the department stated.

After getting inside, the officer unlocked the front door, and police helped her and got her medical attention.

"Policing is more than lights and sirens," the department stated "Sometimes it’s teamwork, quick thinking, and doing whatever it takes to help someone in need."
