What to know

  • The Monterey Police Department shared body camera footage of a sergeant falling off a residential porch during a call.

  • The department jokingly described the fall on social media as a “Rapid Tactical Descent” training maneuver.

  • No injuries were reported, and the post framed the incident in a lighthearted manner.

A Tennessee police department took to social media to playfully spotlight an officer's recent tumble off a residential porch, calling it "a highly advanced training maneuver."

The body camera footage posted on the Monterey Police Department's Facebook page captured a sergeant exiting a home during a call. Unfortunately, the officer wasn't able to navigate the stairs and ended up falling to the ground.

The department did try to cover for the sergeant, though.

"We want to assure the citizens of Monterey that this was a highly advanced training maneuver known as a 'Rapid Tactical Descent,'" the department stated. "This technique ensures our officers are fully prepared for … unexpected elevation changes. Sgt Bennett executed this maneuver "FLAWLESSLY.'"

"Sgt. Bennett’s dignity is currently under review," the department added.
