INGHAM COUNTY, MI — A Michigan police officer saved a man’s life Friday night after pulling him from a burning vehicle.

Stockbridge Police Officer Allen responded around 8 p.m. Friday, Dec. 12, to a car that had crashed into a tree on M-52 near Topping Road in Stockbridge Township.

When Allen got there, the car was on fire, and the driver, a 42-year-old Lansing man, was trapped inside.

Allen, along with Ingham County Sheriff’s Deputy Tabeling, pulled the driver from the burning vehicle, saving his life.

Three minutes after the driver was pulled to safety, the vehicle was fully engulfed in flames.

The driver was pulled out of the passenger side window. There were no other occupants in the vehicle.

Alcohol or drugs are not suspected to be factors in the crash, according to the Stockbridge department.

Both the Stockbridge Police Department and Ingham County Sheriff’s Office posted about the crash on Facebook. The sheriff’s office posted Tabeling’s body cam footage.

The full names of the responding officers were not released.

The officers demonstrated “steadfast courage,” the Stockbridge department wrote. The sheriff’s office added that officers arrived to the scene within one minute of the crash.

The driver suffered severe, but non-life-threatening, injuries and was treated by Stockbridge Area Emergency Services Authority and transported to a hospital.

“We are proud of Officer Allen for his quick actions,” the Stockbridge department wrote. “We honor all the officers who keep our community safe each day, often without recognition and always without hesitation.”

The crash is being investigated by the Stockbridge department.
