A child trapped inside a burning Asbury Park home was rescued from a second floor window Monday morning, officials said.
The duty battalion chief went to the side of the house and the child jumped out of the window into his arms and the arms of police officers, according to a report from the Asbury Park Press.
The child was not injured.
The fire happened at a home on the 500 block of Prospect Avenue and was fought by local fire companies as well as those from other local towns including Neptune, Long Branch and Ocean Township, according to Asbury Park Professional Firefighters Local 384.
“Mutual aid companies then operated alongside APFD to bring the fire under control, limit damage, and prevent tragedy,” the union said in a Facebook post.
The union said this was the second time in just over a year that a child was rescued from a house fire in the city.
“A powerful reminder of the life-saving importance of rapid response, adequate staffing, and regional cooperation,” the union said.
