What to know
A Newton County sheriff's deputy and a Covington police officer helped a homeless couple and their dogs by paying for a hotel room for them ahead of severe weather.
The officers also picked up food for the dogs after encountering the couple during a call at a CVS.
The sheriff's office praised the officers for their compassion and service beyond duty.
Two Georgia law enforcement officers spent time—and their own money—to help a homeless couple and their dogs with bad weather on the way.
"During a recent call to a local CVS, Deputy Joseph McClarin encountered a couple facing more than just a difficult moment — they were experiencing homelessness and living on the streets with their two dogs," the Newton County Sheriff's Office stated in a social media post that included body camera footage of the encounter.
Because severe weather was in the forecast, McClarin and a Covington police officer decided to help the couple out. The deputy and the officer paid for a hotel room for the couple and their dogs, as well as picked up food for the pets.
"Their compassion and willingness to go above and beyond are a true reflection of what it means to serve with heart," the sheriff's office stated.
