LOUISVILLE, Kentucky -- The Louisville Metro Police Department released body camera video of a shooting during a traffic stop that left an officer and suspect wounded on Tuesday.

Officer Patrick Dahlgren approached a car on a service road near the 6900 block of Bardstown Road around 1:40 a.m. and could smell marijuana and see it inside the vehicle, according to WLKY-TV.

Officials said that 18-year-old Decedric Binford exited  the vehicle and Dahlgren patted him down for weapons. Binford then asked to get something from his car. When backup officer Trevor Troutman arrived, Binford began digging deeper into the vehicle.

When he was asked to stop, a struggle ensued.

Binford then discharged a firearm he had gotten from his car, striking Dahlgren in the shoulder at "very close" range.

The man took off running and fired another shot at the officers, prompting Dahlgren and Troutman to each fire four shots. Binford was struck once, but kept running.

He eventually collapsed and was taken into police custody and was then taken to University of Louisville Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Dahlgren was treated for a graze wound and released from the hospital while Troutman was uninjured in the incident.

Binford is being charged with attempted murder of a police officer, fleeing from police and trafficking marijuana.

Both officers are on administrative reassignment as the Public Integrity Unit investigates the shooting.
