Failing to change lanes for a stopped emergency vehicle led to the arrest Wednesday in Brevard County of a high school counselor listed on America's Most-Wanted website as a child pornography suspect, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
At 10:40 a.m., Trooper William Craig noticed a motorist on State Road 528 near Industry Road drive closely past a Brevard County Deputy Sheriff's car that had pulled over a car on the roadway's shoulder, according to FHP.
State law requires motorist to yield a full lane to prevent collisions with stopped police and rescue vehicles with their emergency lights flashing.
When the trooper stopped the 1995 Pontiac sedan to write a citation, the driver gave him a false name, according to FHP Sgt. Kim Montes.
Using a portable fingerprint scanner, the trooper learned the driver's true identity was Brett David Bowyer, who was wanted in West Virginia on a warrant for child pornography.
Bowyer, 34, a former high school counselor, pleaded guilty to possession of pornography after a 2010 arrest but he failed to show up for sentencing, according to America's Most-Wanted website. America's Most Wanted is a law enforcement-theme TV program.
He was charged Wednesday with resisting arrest without violence for providing a false name, attaching a tag not assigned to his vehicle and as a fugitive. Bowyer remains held in the Brevard County Jail without bail.
