FBI: Armed Former Marine Threatened to 'Re-Create Waco' with New Orleans Attack

A man who worked for the New Iberia Police Department from 2019-22 is accused of planning to drive to New Orleans with guns and body armor in order to commit a terrorist attack, according to the FBI.

  • Federal authorities arrested a 28-year-old New Iberia man on Dec. 12 after investigators claim he was driving toward New Orleans with firearms, body armor and a gas canister, allegedly to carry out a terrorist attack.

  • The suspect, a former Marine and ex–New Iberia police employee, is accused of having ties to the Turtle Island Liberation Front, and the FBI said he was under surveillance following related arrests in California tied to planned New Year’s Eve attacks.

  • Agents recovered weapons, ammunition and training materials during searches of his vehicle and residence; is being held in the Iberia Parish Jail as the investigation continues.
