Gunman Sentenced in Shooting of La. Officer
A man convicted of shooting a Louisiana police officer in 2014 was sentenced on to 50 years in prison on Wednesday.
George Lowdins was previously found guilty by a jury of attempted first-degree murder and felon in possession of a firearm in the shooting of Jennings Police Sgt. Ricky Benoit, according to KATC-TV.
Benoit had responding to a domestic disturbance to find Lowdins arguing and fighting with his ex-girlfriend.
The shooting left Benoit was paralyzed, but is now able to walk again and working toward a full recovery after undergoing intense rehab.
Lowdins received the maximum sentence, according to a news release from 31st Judicial District Attorney Michael Cassidy.
