Seventeen people were wounded in a mass shooting at a New Orleans park during an unauthorized block party Sunday night.

Officials said that the shooting occurred around 6 p.m. at the Bunny Friend Playground when two groups began shooting at each other near the crowd of close to 500 people, according to WDSU-TV.

The victims' ages ranged from 10 to 37 years old with 10 females and seven males injured in the incident.

Mayor Mitch Landrieu said at a press conference that while none of the injuries were fatal, one of the victims may never walk again.

"Fortunately, many of the victims have been discharged, but I am disheartened for all of those who were injured and I am outraged at an unbelievable level at the individuals that decided that everybody's life in that park did not matter," he said.

Landrieu went on to label the shooting as an act of domestic terrorism.

"This is senseless," he said. "We will never stand for it."

Police believe the gunmen used automatic weapons and that it appears the shooting was gang related. The search for suspects remains on going.
