Man Gets 27 Years in Arizona Officer's Slaying

A man convicted in the fatal shooting death of a trial police officer in Arizona was sentenced to 27 years in prison on Friday.

Joey Michael Thomas pleaded guilty earlier this year to second-degree murder in the May 2014 slaying of Salt River Police Officer Jair Cabrera, according to KNXV-TV.

The officer was killed during a driving stop while on a drunken-driving patrols on the Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community.

Thomas' plea agreement states that Elijah Loren Arthur -- who was convicted in September -- fired the rifle that killed Cabrera.

The sentencing for Arthur is scheduled for Jan. 4.
