The indictments were announced Thursday as part of the investigation into the death of Freddie Gray.

The Baltimore City State's Attorney on Thursday announced the indictments against six Baltimore police officers for their alleged roles in the death of Freddie Gray.

The State's Attorney's Office conducted an independent investigation into the arrest and Gray's subsequent death and presented the evidence to the Grand Jury, who returned the indictments.

"On May 1st our investigation revealed that we had enough probable cause to bring charges against the six officers," Baltimore City State's Attorney Marilyn Mosby stated. "The Grand Jury, who also concluded there is sufficient evidence for probable cause, returned indictments on all counts presented to them."

Mosby said that as the investigation continued, additional information was and that during an ongoing investigation charges can and should be revised based on the evidence.

Some of the charges differed from what were initially announced at the beginning of the month. New charges included reckless endangerment, while charges of false imprisonment were removed.

The charges stem from the death of 25-year-old Gray, who died on April 19 -- one week after suffering a severe spinal cord injury while in police custody. His death set off weeks of protests and later riots that prompted a curfew for the city and the state's governor to declare a state of emergency and deploy in the National Guard.
