OAK HARBOR, Wash. (AP) — Police in Washington state have arrested a funeral home worker they say pretended to be a retired officer for two decades and recently intervened in fight.

Oak Harbor Police Chief Edgar Green says authorities became aware of Jim Bailey in August after the fight between a couple in a car.

Green says the 69-year-old Bailey identified himself as a retired cop and told a witness to call 911.

KOMO reported (bit.ly/1wwBqG6 ) this week that Bailey's attorney says the situation is a misunderstanding and Bailey is a good Samaritan who tried to help.

Impersonating a police officer is a gross misdemeanor in Washington state.
