The family of a Virginia State Police trooper who was slain 30 years ago is hoping that new technology can help lead to his killer.
Trooper Johnny Bowman was stabbed more than 40 times after he answered the door to his home on August 19, 1984, according to WJZ-TV.
Mark Bowman hasn't given up on finding the person who took the life of his 31-year-old brother.
"I would love to look at the face that is responsible," he told the news station. "I would like to see the case solved in my lifetime and see whoever has had 30 years of free reign brought to justice and pay for the crime that they did."
Officials say that the slain trooper's wife witnessed the attack in the foyer of the house and rushed to call 911. The suspect quickly fled, leaving behind a wig, construction hardhat and eyeglasses.
Despite the evidence, investigators never made an arrest and investigators are making an appeal to find the killer.
There are people that know exactly what happened to Trooper Bowman," Special Investigator Michael Elliott said. "It's a violent crime. There is a lot of rage involved there."
A $50,000 reward has been offered for information leading to an arrest in the trooper's murder.
