A Phoenix police officer and a Maricopa County Sheriff's Posse member were shot and two suspects were arrested on New Year's Eve.
Police say David Lee Murray Jr. and Roger Allen Sharp collided with a pickup truck driven by the off-duty posse member while fleeing the scene of a robbery shortly after 2 p.m., according to The Arizona Republic.
A police officer pursuing the suspects attempted to make an arrest after the collision and drew his gun before giving commands to Sharp, who was driving the getaway vehicle.
Phoenix Police Department spokesman Tommy Thompson told the newspaper that Sharp and the officer engaged in a struggle and that the suspect was able to gain control of the officer's duty weapon and shoot both him and the posse member.
The 34-year-old police officer and 63-year-old posse member both underwent surgery and were listed in critical but stable condition as of Wednesday evening.
Sharp and Murray ran into a nearby neighborhood and were captured a short time later.
Sharp was booked on suspicion of two counts of attempted murder and one count each of armed robbery, burglary, unlawful flight and resisting arrest while Murray was arrested on two counts of armed robbery.
The incident is currently under investigation.
