N.C. Police Arrest Woman in 2001 Homicide Case

Raleigh police have arrested a suspect nearly 12 years after the murder of an elderly woman.

RALEIGH, N.C. -- Police have arrested a suspect almost 12 years, to the month, after the investigation began into the homicide of an elderly Raleigh woman.

On Oct. 24, 2001, emergency services found 91-year-old Beulah Dickerson dead from blunt force trauma on Pineland Circle in west Raleigh.

The investigation remained open over the years and Raleigh homicide detectives recently were able to develop probable cause sufficient to obtain an arrest warrant for Cathy Lynne Lentini, a woman who lived near Dickerson at the time of the crime.

Lentini, formerly known as Cathy Piper, had relocated to Cartersville, Ga., according to police spokesman Jim Sughrue. With the help of local authorities, Raleigh detectives this week arrested Lentini, now 53, in Georgia.

As of Tuesday night Lentini was being held in the Bartow County Jail in Georgia pending extradition. She has been charged with murder in connection with Dickerson's death.
