Charges Filed in Shooting of Five at Oklahoma Event
Two men were charged Friday with shooting with intent to kill and assault and battery with a deadly weapon in connection with the shootings of five men at a Hmong New Year's event last weekend in Tulsa.
Boonmlee Lee, 21, and Meng Lee, 19, were charged Friday in Tulsa County District Court in relation to the shootings at the Green Country Event Center, 12000 E. 31st St., last Saturday.
About 400 members of the Tulsa Hmong community were attending the celebration at the time, Tulsa police said.
Two victims were shot in the torso and three others were shot in their arms and legs, police said. The victims were transported to Saint Francis Hospital and St. John Medical Center. Ages of the victims range from late teens to early 50s, police said. All were expected to survive.
According to a court document, investigators think the target of the shooting was a man named Tong Lee, who had acted as a mediator in a family dispute. He was the first victim of the shooting, being struck in the chest four times at close range.
Both suspects were arrested late Saturday night and booked early Sunday morning into Tulsa Jail, where they remained as of Friday evening.
The Hmong are an Asian ethnic group.
