Fla. Deputy Finds $700K in Cocaine Floating in Ocean

A Broward County, Fla. marine patrol deputy found $700,000 worth of cocaine while on routine patrol on Sunday.

Deputy James "Brad" Lemieux spotted a burlap bag floating in the ocean a mile offshore, between the Dania Beach Pier and the Port Everglades Inlet around 11 a.m., according to a news release.

The deputy retrieved the bag and found 25 individual packages stuffed inside, which field tested positive for cocaine.

The 25 kilos were taken to the Broward County Sheriff's Office's Crime Lab and will be turned over to the DEA.

"Our marine patrol is vigilant," Sheriff Scott Israel said in a statement. "They are reminded all the time that narcotic trafficking is still prevalent."
