A suspected residential burglar was arrested Thursday after he tried to drown an Orlando Police Department K-9 in an attempt to escape investigators.
Landon Bradley Barnes, 18, of Orlando was accused of breaking into a home on the 2500 block of Chelsea Street in the Audubon Park neighborhood just after 1:30 p.m. Thursday.
As he was leaving the bedroom, a woman who lived there walked in and Barnes tried to run, an arrest report said.
The woman chased him until he reached Druid Lake near her home and she lost him. OPD K-9 Seabee found Barnes hiding in a swampy area near the lake. As Seabee tried to force the man out of the water, the arrest report said, Barnes grabbed Seabee and held the dog underwater.
Seabee was able to get away but soon began to convulse, the report said.
Seabee spent the night recovering in an animal hospital. An update on the dog's condition was not available Friday morning.
Police interviewed Barnes after he was arrested. He told police he was drinking water from the victim's hose but never admitted to being inside her home.
Barnes was booked into the Orange County Jail on burglary, resisting an officer with violence and injuring a police dog charges. He is being held on $5,300 bail.
