A state trooper found dead of self-inflicted wounds in a Devens hotel room was under investigation for a "criminal act" while on duty, state police said.
The trooper, 40, was found Monday afternoon at the Hilton Garden Inn in Devens, where police found him in a room, dead of self-inflicted wounds, state police spokesman David Procopio said.
Authorities began looking for him after two people reported he had made statements "indicating he intended to harm himself," Procopio said.
"The trooper was the subject of an investigation, initiated Sunday, into an alleged criminal act that occurred early Sunday morning while he was on duty," Procopio said.
"Upon initiation of the investigation, his use-of-force equipment, including his service firearm, was confiscated and he was relieved of duty."
The trooper joined state police in 2005.
