Dothan police issued a woman a citation Wednesday for leaving the scene of an accident after she crashed a vehicle into the Dothan driver's license office on Montgomery Highway.
Alabama State Highway Patrol Sgt. Steve Jarrett said a preliminary investigation revealed a woman pulled up to the driver's license office and drove her vehicle into the building, causing "moderate to severe" damage to the exterior of the building. Jarrett said in an email the crash happened around 11:20 a.m.
Jarrett said the driver of a 2008 Chevrolet Impala, with front-end damage, fled the scene of the crash. He also said there were no injuries as a result of the crash.
Jarrett later said the investigation was later taken over by officers with the Dothan Police Department.
Dothan Police Lt. Todd David, the supervisor of the department's traffic division, said the woman driving the vehicle was found around 2:45 p.m., and issued a traffic citation for leaving the scene an accident.
David said the woman had apparently driven to the building with the intention of getting her driver's license on Wednesday.
David said the charge does not become a crime unless injuries are involved. Then it's a felony.
Information about driver was not immediately available. David said no other charges were filed.
