The Cocopah Tribal officer was fired for allegedly selling department ammunition over the Internet.

A veteran officer with the Cocopah Tribal Police Department has been fired for allegedly selling police department ammunition over the Internet.

According to Ana Corpus, director of communications for the Cocopah Indian Tribe, the officer was dismissed from the force on May 31, following an internal investigation into the allegations. The officer has not been identified.

"We are truly disappointed by these circumstances, and this willful act is not indicative of the conduct of members of our department," Corpus said. "The Cocopah Tribal Police Department takes these allegations very seriously and has conducted an investigation and has taken appropriate action."

Corpus explained that the officer, who had been with the department for nearly ten years, was placed on administrative leave pending the results on the investigation and later dismissed from the force once it was completed.

She also stated that the case has been forwarded to the Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI) for further criminal investigation and the evaluation of any possible charges.
