One man is dead and two were injured in a shooting at a St. Paul bar early Sunday.

Police responded to calls of three people shot in Malina's Sports Bar, 691 Dale St. N. around 2:40 a.m., Sgt. Paul Paulos said. The bar is in the Frogtown neighborhood.

All three men were taken to Regions Hospital. One of the men died at the hospital, another has been released and the third remained hospitalized Sunday with injuries that weren't life-threatening, Paulos said.

The identity of the dead man is expected to be released Monday morning by the Ramsey County medical examiner's office.

Police have made no arrests. They believe shooting wasn't random.

Police did not comment on whether the bar has had problems in the past. In May 2011, Trent Crumble, 24, was shot and killed in the parking lot during a drug deal. In August 2008, a 24-year-old man, who had been removed from the bar after a fight, was stabbed and critically injured.

According to records from the State of Minnesota office of administrative hearings, Vone X Moua and his wife, Mee Lee Moua, hold the licenses for Malina's.

A record from 2004 states that "Moua and his wife are both licensed social workers, and they maintain a private practice in offices located above the bar."

When the Mouas were granted their on-sale liquor license for Malina's in 2002, they were required to maintain "video surveillance cameras inside and outside the establishment."

Multiple records show that there were numerous

incidents at and near the bar and multiple hearings against Malina's for failure to comply with amended conditions of the license specifically maintaining video and producing the video immediately upon request by police.

The shooting occurred inside the bar, about 40 minutes after the 2 a.m. closing time.

"The incident probably started around bar closing, and if people are in there, why are they in there late?" Paulos said. "That's what investigators are determining, how this all came together and why it happened."
