Two Okla. Officers Injured Breaking Up Bar Fight

NORMAN, Okla. -- A Norman police officer injured breaking up a bar fight this past week underwent surgery Tuesday morning, police said.

MPO Matt Woodard, a K-9 officer, and Officer Tara Taylor responded to a disturbance May 8 in the bar at Sooner Legends, 1200 24th Ave. SW.

Police spokesman Capt. Tom Easley said when the officers arrived, they encountered two men in a fight. When the officers approached, one of the subjects charged the officers, Easley said.

"MPO Woodard attempted to take the subject into custody and in the process, the suspect, Woodard, and Taylor fell to the floor," Easley said. "Woodard injured his left shoulder and left ankle. Taylor injured her right knee."

Woodard was taken to Norman Regional Hospital and treated for a dislocated shoulder and fractured left ankle. Taylor was diagnosed with a knee contusion and released.

Chadric Lynn West, 39, was charged in Cleveland County District Court on May 8 with resisting arrest, public drunk or intoxication and disturbing the peace.

Joshua D. West, 34, was arrested on complaints of public drunk and on an Oklahoma County arrest warrant. Joshua West's charges are pending in municipal court.
