New Jersey Police Officer Stabbed, Suspect Shot

A Passaic officer was stabbed by a suspect who was then shot by police Monday night.

The unidentified police officer suffered a shoulder wound and is listed in stable condition at St. Joseph's Regional Medical Center, according to The Record.

Police responded to a call for a man "creating a disturbance" in the lobby of a Monroe Street building run by the city Housing Authority around 9 p.m.

The man allegedly lunged at one of the responding officers with a knife, stabbing him.

He was then shot by other police officers before being transported to St. Joseph's, where he is listed in critical condition.

Officials told the newspaper that the suspect lived in one of two units in the building that are reserved for people with mental disabilities.
