A University of Central Florida student was arrested on DUI and other charges Sunday after she hit a trooper on University Boulevard and drove away, the Florida Highway Patrol said.
Gina Thais Garcia Ronquillo, 18, hit the trooper's car about 12:40 a.m. while he was outside investigating a hit-and-run crash, pushing the car into him and hurting his left leg, investigators said.
She took off westbound on University Boulevard, the trooper behind her with lights and siren on, video shows. He stopped her at Suntree Boulevard, west of Rouse Road, handcuffed her and had her perform field-sobriety tests, which she failed, according to a report.
She told deputies she had not done anything bad, is a Christian and has a good grade-point average, according to the report. She also said troopers should be "out catching real criminals," the report states.
"My mom's going to kill me," Garcia Ronquillo is heard saying.
Garcia Ronquillo's blood-alcohol level measured .139 on a first breath test and .143 on a second, according to the report. She was arrested on charges of DUI with property damage of leaving the scene of a crash involving injury.
The trooper's door was so damaged that he had to climb in the window before setting off after her, the report states. He was treated and released the same day at Florida Hospital East, said Sgt. Kim Montes, a Florida Highway Patrol spokeswoman.
Garcia Ronquillo told troopers she had been at a UCF dorm with friends, where they watched a movie featuring the British boy band One Direction. She said she drank only orange juice, according to the report.
She is a freshman taking legal-studies courses and works at a law firm, according to her Facebook page.
