FAIRFIELD, Maine -- A man with a prosthetic leg managed to escape a fire at his home on Military Avenue on Monday afternoon.
The fire broke out around 12:45 p.m., Fairfield fire Chief Duane Bickford said, and the home's resident, Jeff Macklin, got out with the help of Fairfield police, according to Bickford.
The chief said the fire, which is suspected to be electrical, was contained to the attic of the house.
Macklin was assisted in getting out by Fairfield police Officers Jake Pierce and Karen McDonald, along with Fairfield fire Capt. Michael Murphy, according to Bickford. While Macklin was visibly shaken at the scene, he was otherwise not injured.
The attic sustained heavy smoke and water damage, Bickford said. The home was insured.
Waterville and Winslow firefighters assisted their fairfield counterparts at the scene, Bickford said. The fire was under control by 2:30 p.m.
