Oct. 15--FORT WORTH -- Police are searching for suspects who used a front-end loader tractor in an apparently unsuccessful attempt to steal an automated teller machine from a west Fort Worth bank.

Fort Worth officers dispatched to the Southwest Bank, 4809 Camp Bowie Blvd., at 3:41 a.m. on a hold-up alarm arrived to find a canopy over the ATM knocked down and the money machine about 20 feet away from its usual spot, said Sgt. Pedro Criado, a police spokesman.

The tractor, still running and emitting a loud beeping noise, sat stationary in the parking lot. Criado said the tractor, possibly stolen, had a broken windshield and appeared to have been hot-wired.

Criado said skid and scrape marks suggest that suspects had attempted to load the ATM onto another vehicle, then fled when they couldn't do so.
