BIG PINE KEY - A Miami motorcyclist with a history of traffic violations stands accused of eluding cops Saturday afternoon in a high-speed run from Key Largo to Big Pine Key while a female passenger sat behind him, according to a Monroe County Sheriff's Office press release.
Ovidio Fidel Cabrera, 27, was charged with fleeing and eluding police, reckless driving and driving with his license suspended. His 2009, green Kawasaki motorcycle was seized, according to a press release from the Monroe County Sheriff's Office.
Cabrera was reportedly first spotted in the southbound lane near Mile Marker 111 at 1:40 p.m. by Florida Highway Patrol troopers.
He was allegedly going 124 mph in a 55-mph zone. The state troopers called Sheriff's Office dispatchers, who advised deputies to be on the lookout for the vehicle. The driver, who was not wearing a helmet, was described as bald with facial hair and extensive tattoos. Meanwhile, the female passenger was wearing a bright pink backpack, making the vehicle easy to spot, according to the release.
Cabrera finally pulled over on Big Pine Key when a deputy got behind him. His license had been indefinitely suspended and he was designated a habitual traffic offender, the release states.
The woman told deputies she was scared and had been trying to get him to stop and let her off.
Cabrera was taken to Monroe County Detention Center on Stock Island, where he posted $20, 000 bail and was released the same day.
