Sept. 17--ST. LOUIS -- A police sergeant was taken to a hospital for evaluation early today after her patrol car was hit by a vehicle that ran a stop sign in St. Louis' Tower Grove East neighborhood.

The crash happened at about 1 a.m. Monday in the 3400 block of Arsenal Street.

A Buick Century heading east on Arsenal ran a stop sign at Arkansas Avenue, hitting the officer's car. After the crash, two people in the car that hit her patrol car climbed out the Buick's passenger window and ran off. Police said the Buick had been stolen.

The sergeant didn't have any signficant injuries, police said. She has been with the department for 14 years.

Police arrested two people -- a 27-year-old man and a 38-year-old man -- a short time later on suspicion of leaving the scene of an accident, stealing a motor vehicle, first-degree tampering and second-degree assault of a law enforcement officer.

The police car and the stolen car both had extensive damage.
