COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.

Police officers rescued a 12-year-old girl from a large cactus early Wednesday morning.

Colorado Springs police officer Amanda Pospischil was in the area of Integrity Center Point and Barnes Road at 1:30 a.m. when she heard a voice calling for help.

Pospischil called for more officers, who said they searched a large field until they located a 12-year-old girl who had wandered away from home and had fallen into a large cactus and was unable to move.

Officers said they got the girl free, but called for an ambulance because she still had a large number of cactus spines stuck in her skin.

The girl was taken to the hospital and her guardians were contacted because the child suffers some impairments, police said.
