SAN DIEGO

A police officer is recovering Wednesday after being injured while trying to make an arrest in City Heights.

Officers arrived at an apartment complex on Home Avenue to arrest a hit-and-run suspect. They said the driver suspected of driving under the influence plowed into two parked cars at around 2 a.m.

After a witness gave them a license plate number, officers tracked down the 21-year-old driver at the complex.

When officers arrived, they said the man became aggressive and started fighting with police.

During the arrest, police said, the man's 40-year-old mother also came out of the apartment and attacked one of the officers who was trying to restrain her son.

The officer sustained an injury to the shoulder and was taken to the hospital.

Both mother and son are facing charges for battery of an officer.
