A Utah Highway Patrol trooper was seriously injured Wednesday morning after he was struck while directing traffic at a collision scene with injuries.
According to The Salt Lake Tribune, the trooper was on the scene of a crash between a van and a semi truck on Interstate 80, near Lambs Canyon when he was hit by a motorist.
The injured trooper, who was not identified, was taken by air ambulance to Salt Lake City’s University Hospital, according to the newspaper. Highway patrol officials said the officer’s suffered “serious trauma” to an arm, but his injuries were not life-threatening.
Several other minor and non-injury wrecks were reported in the area as a result of the original crash, according to the paper.
