Aug. 10--DECATUR -- A 21-year-old male who was allegedly driving while intoxicated crashed into a police car Tuesday night.

Sergio T. Obil was driving a blue 2003 Pontiac Montana van eastbound on West Grand Avenue at North College Street at about 11:35 p.m. Tuesday, when his vehicle struck a Decatur Police patrol car that had turned in front of him, according to an arrest affidavit by officer Steve Hagemeyer.

"While speaking to Obil about the crash I could smell the strong odor of an alcoholic beverage on his breath," Hagemeyer wrote. "I observed Obil's eyes to be glassy and bloodshot."

Obil reported that he had consumed two beers. The breathalyzer at the Macon County Jail showed his blood alcohol count at .124, more than 50 percent over the legal limit for driving.

Obil, who has no valid driver's license and reported that he has been in the country illegally for the past three years, was booked into the jail on aggravated driving under the influence. He is being held without bond, pursuant to a federal hold. Obil is due in circuit court for a pre-trial hearing on Sept. 13.
