White Powder Thrown From Truck During S.C. Chase
Aug. 09--A Cassatt man was arrested on drug charges after Kershaw County drug teams saw him tossing a white powder out of his truck during a high-speed chase.
James Makham Godfrey, 51, is charged with manufacturing methamphetamine, resisting arrest, failure to stop for blue lights and possession of cocaine.
Deputies, who had been on the lookout for Godfrey since getting a tip that he had been making meth in his pickup truck daily in Camden, spotted his vehicle and tried to make a stop, deputies say.
Godfrey didn't stop, and a chase ensued. During the chase, deputies saw him throwing handfuls white powder out of the truck. His truck was eventually forced off the road, and he was arrested.
Deputies found a mobile meth lab in the back of the truck, deputies say, and chemical byproducts produced from the drug's synthesis. While executing a search warrant, deputies said they also found marijuana and cocaine at his home in Cassatt.
Godfrey is also facing charges for exposing himself at a business in Cassatt in June, deputies say. IN that incident, they responding deputies found Godfrey belligerent and partially dressed. The man ran from police and pulled out electrified prongs fired from one of the officer's stun guns during the chase. He was only subdued with the help of a driver who saw the chase.
Godfrey is being held at Kershaw County Detention Center.
